New Delhi: The sun is scorching in Delhi, the capital, and temperatures have reached 40 degrees Celsius. To provide relief to children, the Directorate of Education has announced summer vacations for Delhi schools from May 11 to June 30, 2026.
This means that children will receive a full 50-day vacation, and schools will reopen directly on July 1, 2026. Meanwhile, government schools in Uttar Pradesh will have holidays from May 20 to June 15, as per the academic calendar. Private schools have also decided to declare holidays between May 15 and 20, although district officials may order earlier closures if the heat becomes too intense.
When does summer vacation begin in Rajasthan schools?
Rajasthan is always experiencing intense heat, and the Education Department has released an official calendar. Summer vacations have been declared from May 17 to June 20, 2026. Due to the intense sunshine and heat waves, school timings have already been changed in many districts to protect children from the afternoon heat. Based on previous years’ records, it is expected that if the heat does not subside by the end of June, these holidays may be extended further at the district level.
Children in Bihar and Haryana will have to wait a little longer for summer vacations, as schools will be closed in June. According to the Bihar Education Department’s calendar, summer vacations are scheduled from June 1 to June 20, 2026. Similarly, in Haryana, schools will remain closed from June 1 to June 30, allowing children to enjoy the holidays. However, due to the weather conditions in both states, the government often extends holidays to protect children due to heat waves.
The West Bengal government has already announced summer vacations in all districts except hilly areas like Darjeeling and Kalimpong. In Punjab, holidays have been announced in phases during May and June to avoid academic disruption and provide children with relief from the heat. Despite these announcements, students and parents should ensure accurate information from their school teachers, as local schools or district administrations often change the dates to suit their convenience. Overall, the time for children to enjoy themselves and visit their grandparents is near.
